stripes & sequins

The Outfit:  Blouse: Mink Pink* | Dress: Lady Dutch* | Necklaces: Joe Fresh | Pantyhose: Walmart
Shoes (similar): Steve Madden*

Once the outfit came together, I really liked pairing the striped blouse with the dress, until I realized later on that the poor blouse fibers were getting snagged on the sequins! I still haven't been able to bare looking at the blouse in order to repair it. But I'm hoping that a delicate job with a razor or sweater shaver might save the day!

help, please!

My favourite local clothing boutique is hosting a style challenge: the best dressed gal with the most votes wins a $100 gift certificate to the shop towards their spring wardrobe!

I would really appreciate your vote in Je Suis Prest Boutique's style challenge. If you could take a moment to click on the photo (to the left) and "like" it on Facebook that would be wonderfulI was in the shop yesterday and couldn't help but fall in love with all the new BB Dakota and Jack items. It would be a wonderful thing to win!

winter florals

The Outfit  Dress: Lush*  | Top: H&M | Leggings (similar): C'est Moi*
Necklace: ESquared Jewels* | Belt: Joe Fresh Style | Boots (similar): Town Shoes

We've had a mild winter, to say the least. Believe me, I'm certainly not complaining! We've only had to endure a few bitterly cold days here and there, we all know Maritime winters tend to be harsh than this. As you can tell, I snapped these photos just in the tick of time- moments before the sun went down.

According to B, the temperature is supposed to dive even further over the weekend but then peak back up over 0 degrees. Plus, sunset is finally creeping back up towards 5:30pm. So note to fellow local bloggers, next week sounds like it will be prime opportunity to get outdoor outfit photos without freezing your fingers and toes off! (Yay!)

* The following items were purchased locally: dress (Envy), leggings (Je Suis Prest Boutique), and bracelets (Silver Daisy Designs).

baby it's cold outside!

The Outfit  Dress: Pink Martini* | Vest: H&M | Tights (similar): We Love Colors | Belt (similar): Old Navy
Shoes: Michael Kors* | Necklace: Aldo Accessories | Bracelets: ESquared Jewels* & Baubles*

Don't worry, we don't actually still have our Christmas decor up! This outfit I wore on Christmas Eve actually. The only part left of the decor to remove now would be the exterior Christmas lights, but with days like -15 or -25 degrees Celsius (which is 5 to -13 in Fahrenheit for my American friends) I figure we'll save that task for a warmer day. But apparently it's supposed to be above 0 degrees next week- so that's certainly something to look forward to!

Getting outfit photos done with the cold with limited day light as certainly been a challenge this time of year. I promise you'll see less of my back deck and the interior doors once the weather rises above 0 degrees or on the odd day that I get up the courage to lose all feeling in my fingers! I think I'll go and invest in that remote for my camera now!

Golden Globes

Last night, like many of you, I curled up on the couch to see what the celebrities were wearing to the Golden Globes! But to tell you the truth, the most interesting part of the entire show- to me- is the red carpet show. Below I picked my top 10 favourite dresses from the event:

10. Angelina Jolie in a Versace gown that I'd bet very few others could
pull off. Did you catch her icy interview with Ryan Seacrest?
9. Paula Patton in a vibrant yellow Monique Lhuilier. Did Rachel Zoe
style this beauty again? (Who did Rachel Zoe style this year?)

8.  Jessica Alba, in Gucci, was styled by Brad Goreski. Anyone seen
his new show?
7.  Claire Danes in J. Mendel. Click here to see the front of her dress.

6. I loved Reese Witherspoon's care-free waves (more my
style!) with the red Zac Posen dress!
5. This soft pink Dior looked gorgeous on Charlize Theron!

4. Diane Lane in a gold and glittery Reem Acra
5. Julie Bowen in a neutral fairy-tale piece also from
Reem Acra

2. Selma Hayek in a bold gold and black Gucci number.
1. Evan Rachel Wood in gorgeously textured and shiny Gucci gown.

Honourable mentions definitely go out to:
1. Jenna Dewan, 2. Debra Messing (Monique Lhuillier), 3. Emma Stone (Lanvin), 4. Kate Beckinsale (Roberto Cavalli), 5. Nicole Ritchie (Julien MacDonald), 6. Shailene Wooley (Marchesa), 7. Sofia Vergara (Vera Wang).

Which were your favourite gowns on the red carpet last night?
By the way, you can go back and see my favourites from the 2011 Golden Globes red carpet too!

faux glow

As a fair complexioned gal, I've tried multiple ways to add a healthy looking glow to my skin without endangering the health of my skin or looking like an orange. Being as pale as I naturally am in the winter and sans make-up, please often comment on how tired or unwell I look at times. Some ladies have a china doll complexion that they carry off to a T and then there are others of us who just want a bit of a glow to help cover our red spots or dark under eye circles without needing to cake the make-up on.

I've tried them all: lotions and gels they leave an oily feeling residue, spray-on products that you need to very aware and precise with, and tinted moisturizer. Of the previously mentioned products, I have actually liked Marcelle tinted lotion, but you have to be careful about blending and how much you use- you don't want your skin to be another colour than your neck! I like the idea of a non-greasy, skip-the-strongly-scented product that would give you a little colour, gradually but effectively (without making you orange).

And a few weeks ago, I found that product for the very 1st time. A couple of months ago, Catitlin from Style Within Reach had recommended Tan Towels. It was the Marcelle version that I had come across in Shoppers and decided to take the plunge: 15 towels (1 does the whole body) ranging from $16-$19.

The sheet looks about the size of a baby wipe or make removal towelette. As per directions, you apply the self-tanning cloth to the whole body and wait to it to dry before putting your clothes back on (which is really only a minute or so). Other self-tan products I would use at night or a few hours before showering because I couldn't stand the greasy feeling they left or their strong scent. With Marcelle's self tanning cloths I can use them right after a shower and then go right on with my day.

I picked up these Marcelle I Bronze cloths at Shoppers but I'm use you could find them at other drugstores that sell Marcelle skin care products and cosmetics.

Have you tried these before? What is the best tanning product you have ever used?

* This blog post is not an paid advertisement. Above is just a reflection of my opinion on this product.

tied up

The Outfit  Sweater: C'est Moi*   | Watch: Fossil | Boots (similar): Town Shoes
Faux leather leggings (similar): Hue* | Necklace: Joe Fresh Style
Bracelet: ESquared Jewels*

I scored this sweater dress during boxing day sales for 40% off when I had been lusting over it a few days earlier for regular price. Sometimes it does pay to wait! I wore this particular ensemble out to dinner for B's birthday not long ago (his b-day in his 20's!)

I could not live without these boots- they're a definite wardrobe staple of mine during the fall and winter months. After 5 seasons with them, I thought they had kicked the bucket last week while looking at how faded the toes were and when the zipper started to fail. However, I took them to my trusty shoe repair shop and after new soles and a new zipper, they had polished these babies up so they looked less than half their age! What a relief- saves me the money and the trouble of having to go find a new pair! I thought this might be their absolute last season, but after this repair, they may have a little more mileage in them!

* Bought locally: sweater and leggings are from Je Suis Prest Boutique while the bracelet is from Silver Daisy Designs

follow along

I'm just wondering- which is your preferred method of following blogs?

My pick is Bloglovin'- it makes it incredibly easy to know when there is something new to read on any of the blogs I follow. It saves the time of randomly checking them all. You can follow Atlantic Style Diaries via Bloglovin' by clicking here

Since I realize that people all have varied methods of keeping up with their favourite reads, I also added Atlantic Style Diaries to Facebook this week. Here you can keep up to date with posts from both this blog and the accompanying Tumblr blog.

The Outfit  Sweater (similar): Press  | Print top: BB Dakota | Tee- American Eagle | Jeggings: Guess
Boots: Born | Purse: Coach | Necklace: House of Harlow | Watch: Fossil

This is officially my new favourite sweater. It goes with just about everything and is incredibly cozy. I have to stop myself from wanting to wear it every day lately. I picked it up at local boutique, Je Suis Prest Boutique, on a boxing day sale for 30% off.

bloggers do it better: sequins

The Outfit  Skirt (similar): Silvian Heach  | Blazer (similar): American Eagle Tights: Winners | Tee (similar): American Eagle | Necklace: House of Harlow | Watch: FossilClutch: Kate Spade
Shoes (similar): Steve Madden | Nail polish: Milani | Lip gloss: Chanel

When I saw the opportunity to participate in this round of Bloggers Do It Better, I thought Kristina's choice of sequins couldn't have a better timing: I've been wearing plenty of sequin-clad outfits all throughout the holiday season (and I'm hardly over my obsession)!

Above is actually the outfit I wore New Year's Eve. I posted a few snap shots from that night earlier this week. There didn't seem to be much going on in Saint John to ring in 2012 but we found ourselves attending a random private party uptown with a few friends. All in all, with an empty commerical space, tasty au d'oeurves, and some dancing, this night was a good time!
